I have to admit I am not a big fan of art museums – or museums in general. I once walked around the Louvre Museum in Paris in about 40 minutes just checking out the main art works and wondering “why all the fuss?!”. Yep, I am that ignorant when it comes to art. But one lazy cloudy Saturday afternoon (much like today), I got inspired to check out the beautiful building of Hong Kong Museum of Art, after a quick movie date with the kids in K11. Maybe it was because we got the art bug from the mall itself. Afterall, it’s called an Art Mall and rightfully so. It makes you feel like you are stepping in an art museum but you can also shop, dine or watch a movie! Or maybe, I just want to see something new in the city, ticking off the places that are very much available and free for us to do whilst still being locked in in our Home Kong.

There was a bit of a queue when we arrived in HKMoA. But the staff were just making sure visitors recorded their details given we were still in the midst of a pandemic. Other than that – it was quite easy to get in.
As mentioned above – HKMoA is free of charge. One can opt to pay for special tours or access to the special exhibit. But since I am no art connoisseur, we made do with the free stuff. The kids especially enjoyed the exhibit where they made Hong Kong art work into a movie/film.

I remembered being told off here by the HK MoA staff because my kids started chasing each other, playing inside the exhibit area. Uh oh!

But I think our favourite part was the “NOT a fashion store!” exhibit, showcasing art work related to everyday clothing — its evolution and pop culture.

So if you have not visited HKMoA, do take a tour, especially since the weather these days requires an indoor activity! It’s a place for kids and adults alike to get that dose of art fix (even if you struggle with art!).
