Little Palm Beach

I did a Google search of places to snorkel in Hong Kong and I saw an article mentioning Little Palm Beach in Clearwater Bay. There is not much on the net about the place so we almost did not go for fear it would be too rocky of a beach for the kids.

Little Palm Beach

But I’m glad we pushed through as we not only found a good place to snorkel with a decent beach front, it also felt like our exclusive beach for some time! When we arrived early afternoon, no one was on the beach other than the divers getting ready for their water entry.

The sight of the divers immediately told us we chose the right place to get our snorkel fix for the weekend.

The big bonus was we only had to catch the red taxi to get to Little Palm Beach. And it took only about 30mins to arrive from our place. Not bad at all for a sort of private beach. To note – this is not one of the public beaches managed by LCSD, so there are no changing rooms or toilets in the area. And most likely the reason it was not crowded at all!

Our exclusive beach spot. Aaron immediately geared up while the kids busied themselves to play on the beach.

After setting up our spot, Aaron and I immediately geared up to skorkel. The kids decided to stay at the beach and busied themselves playing with the sand and hermit crabs.

The snorkeling was better closer to the rocky area, just in front of the two white villas on the right side of the entrance to the beach. There were more fish around that spot, however it was a bit tricky as the waves would push you closer to the rocks. I actually almost bumped into a massive immersed rock but glad I got out of harms way.

There were also a number of different species of corals in the area. Too bad we have no water camera so you just have to believe me!

The water visibility is great (for Hong Kong!)

The kids eventually joined us for some snorkeling (probably to cool down) after playing at the beach. I’m so glad they both are happy to be in the water. One day when the boarders open, we’ll finally be able to come home to the Philippines and I’m sure they will be really hooked to snorkeling. And when they are ready – diving!!!

Ahhh… one day!!! But for now, we’ll check out what we can in Hong Kong. Any other snorkeling destination we should visit?

Another place visited in HK for the first time!
Perhaps we’ll try kayaking next time! We saw some folks going back to Little Palm Beach later in the afternoon. They must have explored some islands close by.
