The Lows and the Drożyńscys were set to explore Sai Kung’s outlying islands but we were told there’s no guarantee we can get off as the waves were a bit crazy. So we settled on Sharp Island.
Two months ago, our family had our chilled beach escapade at Hap Mun Bay in Sharp Island. But since we missed the hike to explore the other end of the island the first time, we gladly went back with the Drożyńscys (who also claim they’re the reason we are now hiking. This claim is yet to be verified! 🤪)

We paid 40HKD per person for a round trip ticket on board a sampan, and got off Hap Mun Bay, where we started our hike to Kiu Tsui Beach.

We followed the paved path to the beach and turned left to get to the barbeque area, where we started the hike up to Sharp Island’s other end.

It was supposed to be winter time in Hong Kong already but this weekend decided to be more like summer! The sun was full on (and my brown skin was sizzling) but no complaints here — t’was a beautiful day still!

Then, on we went to finish the hike to Kiu Tsui Beach. Aaron and Michal teamed up leading the pack, while Iza marched the kids upwards. Kinga and I stayed at the end to catch up on life.

This hike, according to All Trails is about 5km long, but it didn’t feel that tough as the walk up wasn’t as steep as the ones we’ve done before.
Next thing we knew, we’re already starting our descent.

We decided to cross the tombolo, a bar of sand connecting Sharp Island’s mainland to the other small island, to take our lunch break.

There was a clear path going to the small island — and the kids started to look for crabs and snails under the rocks.

We settled here for our lunch break — with the view of the tombolo and the bigger island. The kids looked for their own rock to chill on too.
Before heading back to the bigger island, Kinga, Michal and I decided to check out the small island. And I think I found my favourite part of the hike here — a monopod made of wood!!!

It was a very small island so after only a few steps, we reached the other end! Kinga and I decided to go through the rocks to get back to our kids and Aaron, instead of tracing back our steps.

Once we’re all back – it was time to head back to the bigger island to catch the boat back to Sai Kung’s mainland. The tombolo was now partially covered with water as the tide came in. So off went our shoes!

Only Lukey’s pair of shoes and socks got wet on the submerged tombolo. Though the path was a bit painful for our bare feet, I think everyone enjoyed a refreshing foot wash!
And at Kiu Tsui Beach pier, we waited for our sampan back to Sai Kung Pier. And that’s all folks for our quick getaway to Sharp Island on a Sunday!
