A normal mother bringing her 4 and 6yr old children up a hike would usually check first if the hiking trail is safe and kid-friendly. This mother — that’s me — just looked briefly at All Trails app and saw a 2.3km hike and then decided to bring the family up Kowloon Peak!
I thought we were going for an easy hike. But boy I was wrong! Aaron spotted this trail with ropes and decided to have an adventure. I initially said no as we were with our kids, but I got persuaded when Aya — who was wearing her animal print dress on a hike — decided to take the lead up this path!

And a few more steps up, the hike became harder and harder. The slope was getting steeper. Then the rope was gone and the path was getting more slippery.
Aaron went ahead with Aya so I was left with Lukey, who once in a while gives me a heart attack by standing straight on a steep slope, not holding on to anything. My mind was just racing on what would happen if he falls and I lose my balance and we both fall off the cliff?!!! And will Aaron find us?!!!
Seriously, I almost cried once asking Lukey to hold on to the rocks in front of him while we were sort mountain/rock climbing – not simply hiking!

We took a quick rest beside the CLP Kowloon Peak Radio Station, ate some snacks and took in the beautiful view of our Home Kong. It was awesome, perfected by the sun’s golden glow above our city and our faces.

That beautiful sun was also a reminder it will be setting soon. So we continued on with our hike up Kowloon Peak!

And voila! We made it to Kowloon Peak!!!

We did not stick around for long at the peak. Aaron rushed us down as he’s worried we’d be stuck in the dark going down the mountain.

The path down wasn’t as hard as the hike up. But it was not an easy one as well. There were a lot of rocks, boulders and wasps on the path we took down, but it was the fastest way to get to the road.
We had to keep the kids going as we only have less than an hour of sunlight left!

We made it down Jat’s Incline just before it went totally dark. We were safe and sound; tired but very happy and proud of ourselves for this adventurous hike! Definitely one for the books… but I won’t recommend it for those faint of hearts.
