Hong Kong Island Coastal Trail: A fun (and safe!) weekend walk

After an adrenaline-filled Sunday last week, we decided to pick a weekend activity today that’s a lot safer for everyone — a coastal walk in Hong Kong island.

Following the app TrailWatch, which my girlfriends and Mahjong buddies introduced (after I shared our crazy weekend story) — we discovered and enjoyed Hong Kong’s picturesque harbour.

With scooters today, and the kids are happy! 🤪

We started our walk from Central Pier 2 with Wan Chai as a destination.

There were a lot of interesting finds on the path. My favorite was these miniature displays that literally share the pain and joy of living in a shoebox in the city.

The pain and joy of HK life — This one really talked to me. Maybe because of the mahjong set up? 😂
Reminded me of Angela’s halloween treats. There’s an eyebal soup/juice here!!!
Playgrounds — too bad a lot were closed off. Not really sure of the logic of that though as it meant less space for the kids to play around.

And also loads of picture perfect spots!

Lukey’s favorite was of course the moment he had with a kind fisherman who lent him his fishing rod. Then another fisherman caught a puffer fish which Lukey held and threw back into the water. That made him so happy that he pestered us almost the entire afternoon walk to get a pufferfish! Oh, Aya said the pufferfish moment was her favorite too — even though she just watched it while hhshe was having her “moment”.

Pufferfish!!!

We continued our walk to Wan Chai harbour, which surprised us with more playgrounds and chilling areas. Last May 2021 (when we did our Amazing Race – Low Season), this area was still blocked off.

Play areas for kids…
…and older kids.
The (not so) good dinosaur and the old dinosaur.
Because it’s a stress free walk — I managed to request a photo of myself!
Maybe next time we can try these water rides 🤞🏼

Since we still have time before our booked dinner, we continued walking to Causeway Bay area passing through the Royal Yatch Club of Hong Kong.

In case someone wants a boat! There’s still time to claim this one ☝️
I had to take a photo of this one — really cool initiative for a solar powered boat to help clean Hong Kong’s water by picking up garbage in the sea.
Causeway Bay coastal finds.

We ended our 4.6km walk at Tung Lo Wan Fire Station. But we’ll be back next week to continue our coastal walk of Hong Kong Island. We’ll try to also join this Coastal Trail Challenge.

Ended our trip with a dinner at Oxford House in Tai Koo Shing. And Lukey of course had to do this pose.
