We needed a break from Boracay: A weekend trip to Tibiao & Pandan, Antique

Don’t get me wrong… We love our island living here in Boracay, it’s just that it would be a shame if we’re not able to explore the surrounding places. Besides, the wind we need for kite surfing has decided to take a break from the island and the rainy season has officially started. So yes, it’s definitely time to take a quick vacation from the most famous beach destination of the Philippines.

We decided to head to Antique as my parents, myself and of course my own little family have never been. Our destination: Calawag Mountain Resort in Tibiao. To get there, we rented a van c/o our trusted tour guide, Kuya Eron (who I highly recommend by the way). It took about 2.5 hours from Caticlan Port to get to our destination.

As soon as we arrived, we quickly booked almost all the activities they have on offer: fish spa, river tubing, kawa (couldron) bath, massage and a boodle fight lunch! We paid about 8,500 PHP for everything, and yes — it was worth every penny! The kids and even my dearest husband enjoyed the place, the food and all the activities. We had too much fun there that we passed on the opportunity to check out Tibiao falls.

Our priceless weekend in a minute

Instead of going back to Boracay the same day, we decided to stay for a night in Phaidon Resort, a beach front property in Pandan, Antique.

The next day, Aaron and I decided to check out the marine sanctuary beside the resort — thanks to the resorts’ effort to get us an approval from the Barangay officials. We had to get a permit worth 300 PHP from the barangay to be allowed to snorkel the area. Unfortunately, visibility was really bad so all our efforts to get to the protected area only gave us a good swimming exercise in the rough sea.

Before heading back to Caticlan Port – we checked out Malumpati Cold Spring. There were a lot of people in the area so we just took a photo, quickly dipped our feet in the water to confirmed the cold temperature, and then we headed home.

By the way, I loved that we were almost off-the-grid too in this trip. Almost because the internet connection was super weak, giving us a good break from our screens and enjoy family time with nature!
