The Amazing Race: Low Season
The most daring competition ever attempted to celebrate two LOWly beings
23 players. 6 teams. 12 tasks. 2 hours to complete. 1 amazing race around Hong Kong.
Bound by friendship and family, these awesome folks raced around Hong Kong to celebrate Aaron and my birthday. Yes, we decided to have our closest friends hate us for a few minutes while bringing out their most competitive sweating selves for a day to remember us by and experience Hong Kong’s treasures.
The race is on: Six teams plan out their strategic course of action to complete 14 tasks in two hours under HK’s sweltering heatMy teammates and I were booting it to get to the nearest MTR.The A team which became the C team: Aaron leading us the first time until we decided it was really Chiqui who must lead us to victory — but the switch was waaaay too late!
Our team took off first — proud and confident we will be winning the race. It was just like watching the Amazing Race reality TV happening in front of our eyes. We were sprinting to get to our next stop as we were only allowed to take public transportation, excluding taxi. So we were constantly discussing what is the best route to take, who is going to do what, where will be our next task, and how fast we can get to the next stop.
Unbeknownst to us, the five other teams were already making a huge lead.
Team 7/11 beer: The team that thought 7/11 was a detour to get their ice cold beers. They still managed to come second… to the last place! Our team obviously beating them to the last spot. The Trio: The dream team who still think they won the race. In the good words of Dave, “We got a HK education. We were all winners!”Team NDJM: The team that only missed two tasks but also missed to send over their photo of a stop to get the coveted Amazing Race win. Still an amazing job guys, especially with two in the team seeing most of HK spots for the first time. The PPower team: Despite half the team being late, these Pinoy super racers managed to grab the 2nd spot. Very very close to victory! The winning team: Nobody knows how they managed to do almost all the tasks. Even Wouter, the game organizer, was amazed with their amazing race skills. Must be the Polish blood running in most of the players veins plus an outlier Aussie! Not for the weak of heart. Our team unfortunately did not get to this spot but thanks to the winning team we now know how a dead fish’s heart beat! The Amazing Racers of Low Season at the pit stopAnd then, we capped the day by having an amazing feast and free flow sake and beer at TMK!
Tough to beat this year’s celebration.
And now we plan for what to do next year… prepare, prepare dear friends! Mwahaha!
P.S. In case you’re wondering, our event organizer is Wouter. Highly recommended activity for those who want to do something different and challenge themselves and their friends, while learning a little bit more about our Home Kong.
